MFA: Azerbaijan advances communication line through Iran as Armenia resists trilateral agreement

12 September 2024 10:34

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada has said that Azerbaijan is advancing plans to establish communication lines through Iran as a response to Armenia’s resistance to the provisions of the 2020 Tripartite Statement.

Hajizada made the remarks in an interview with local media, Caliber.Az reports.

According to him, Armenia is misrepresenting the Trilateral Statement: “And this causes us regret.”

“The ninth paragraph of the Tripartite Statement contains specific obligations to open communications. If Armenia insists on its current position, Azerbaijan has alternatives. One of them is the laying of communication lines through Iran. Work is underway in this direction. If Armenia continues its policy of self-isolation, it is its own choice. And this choice is not in its favour,” Hajizada said.
