Azerbaijan advances low-carbon strategy, updated climate goals Ahead of COP29
Azerbaijan is forging ahead with its climate action agenda by developing key strategic documents aimed at addressing global climate change in alignment with the Paris Agreement.
Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov announced the country’s latest initiatives at a round table discussion titled “The Role of Water Management Systems in Climate-Resilient Agriculture,” held ahead of COP29, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Karimov revealed that Azerbaijan is in the process of drafting two significant documents: the "Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)" and the "Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS)." These documents are designed to guide Azerbaijan's climate policy and commitments, with the LCDS focusing on a comprehensive approach to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing sustainability.
The Deputy Minister underscored the importance of educating farmers and adapting agricultural practices to mitigate climate change effects. He highlighted that Azerbaijan aims to achieve a 40 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 as part of its contribution to global climate initiatives under the UN Framework Convention.
