Azerbaijan, Indonesia plan to launch direct flights, says envoy

Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hildi Hamid has said that Azerbaijan and Indonesia had always been supporting each other in the international arena, within the framework of various organizations.

“In international organizations, when Azerbaijan's chairmanship was discussed, Indonesia always supported these initiatives, and Azerbaijan did the same,” Report quotes him as saying on August 17.

The ambassador recalled that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

“On this occasion, we are planning to organize a cultural event at Fountain Square in Baku to familiarize the residents of the capital with the culture of Indonesia. We are trying to ensure that Azerbaijanis have more information about our country, we also want our people in Indonesia to know more about Azerbaijan,” he said.

Hamid also commented on the development of tourism between Azerbaijan and Indonesia, adding that there are no direct flights between the two countries yet.

“The Embassy of Indonesia [in Azerbaijan] is trying to resolve this issue, it is planned to organize b2b meetings between companies to open direct flights between Azerbaijan and Indonesia. Perhaps in the future charter flights between the countries will be organized during the tourist season. Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airlines now offer direct flights to Bali and Jakarta via Istanbul and Doha. In Indonesia, the best conditions for recreation have been created for tourists. Tourists are even encouraged to stay in the homes of local residents so that they feel comfortable,” he said.

The ambassador said that he often travelled to the districts of Azerbaijan, and visited the cities of Sumgait, Mingachevir, Gandja, and other parts of Azerbaijan.

“The country is very beautiful and picturesque, I also visited Karabakh and I really liked it,” the diplomat added.
