Azerbaijan, Romania discuss deeper inter-parliamentary cooperation
On February 27, the Chairman of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation led by the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania, Ion-Marcel Ciolacu, who was on a visit to Baku.
According to Azertag, Speaker Gafarova expressed confidence that Ciolacu's visit would contribute to the development of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and the further strengthening of friendly relations.
She recalled that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992, noting that Romania is the second country in the world and the first among the countries of the European Union to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan.
According to Gafarova, friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Romania are successfully developing at the level of strategic partnership and mutual visits and meetings at the level of heads of state play an exceptional role in the development of relations between Baku and Bucharest.
During the conversation, Gafarova also expressed satisfaction with the establishment of effective cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
She highlighted the importance of mutual visits at the level of chairmen of parliaments, and friendship groups, as well as the activities of friendship groups operating in both parliaments.
She noted the importance of cooperation at the level of parliamentary committees for the further development of inter-parliamentary relations.
The Speaker also t spoke about the grandiose Victory of Azerbaijan in the Patriotic War, also informed her colleague about the restoration and reconstruction work in the liberated territories and the process of returning internally displaced persons to their native lands.
Ciolacu, for his part, noted that there are close ties between Azerbaijan and Romania, and Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Bucharest in the South Caucasus.
Ciolacu shared his views on the development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, the role of friendship groups in this area and the contribution of joint energy projects between Romania and Azerbaijan to the energy security of Europe.
During the conversation, the chairmen of both parliaments stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between delegations in international organizations.
