Azerbaijan's COP29 chairmanship bolsters global role in secure energy transition Minister says
In an address underscoring Azerbaijan's commitment to the global energy transition, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov highlighted the country's pivotal role as it prepares to chair the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Speaking at the Global Energy Transition Congress and Exhibition in Milan, Italy, Shahbazov outlined Azerbaijan's national energy strategy and emphasized the nation's alignment with COP29 objectives, reinforcing its dedication to fostering international cooperation and ensuring a secure, equitable shift towards green energy, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Minister Shahbazov highlighted that Azerbaijan, a long-standing reliable partner in fossil fuels, is now poised to contribute significantly to the global shift towards green energy. He noted that the country's socio-economic development priorities and modern national energy policy, which focus on green growth, are well aligned with the objectives of COP29.
In his speech, Shahbazov also underlined the trilateral collaboration between Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil. He addressed the agreement on establishing a new collective quantitative climate finance target for the period after 2025, emphasizing the importance of mutual trust in enhancing the effectiveness of multilateral climate dialogues.
Shahbazov further stressed the need for fair distribution of responsibilities and financial resources to support global climate initiatives.
