German chancellor responds firmly to Musk’s criticism: I will keep my cool
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has vowed to maintain composure amid recent attacks by Elon Musk on him and other German politicians.
In an interview with Stern magazine, Scholz acknowledged that social democrats have long been targets of criticism from wealthy media moguls, noting that "since the century before last" such figures have expressed disdain for social democratic policies, per Caliber.Az.
"Today, the world has changed, and media companies and platforms have a global reach," Scholz explained. "But essentially, there's nothing new. You must remain calm in these situations."
Musk had earlier referred to Scholz as a "fool" and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as an "anti-democratic tyrant." Scholz strongly rejected these remarks, stating, "The federal president is not an anti-democratic tyrant. Germany is a strong and stable democracy. Here, Musk can say whatever he wants, but in Germany, it’s the will of the citizens that matters, not the chaotic opinions of a billionaire from the United States."
Scholz made it clear that he had no plans to seek Musk’s favour. "I do not consider it necessary to invite Mr. Musk to my office," he said, adding, "I leave that to others."
Musk, for his part, has expressed confidence that the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) party will score a significant victory in upcoming elections, claiming that Germany's economy and culture are at a critical juncture and that the AfD represents the "last spark of hope" for the nation.
