Azerbaijani leader tours Khojaly's Shushakand village, reviews resettlement efforts PHOTO
On September 14, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited Shushakend village in the Khojaly District to assess ongoing reconstruction and infrastructure projects.
Elchin Yusubov, the President’s special representative in Khankendi, Aghdara, and Khojaly, briefed Aliyev on the work completed since the village came under Azerbaijani control during the anti-terrorist operation conducted by the country’s Armed Forces two years ago, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Significant progress has been made in restoring the village’s social and utility infrastructure. Existing electricity lines and three water reservoirs have been repaired, a sub-artesian well installed, a transformer commissioned, and preparations for meter installations are underway. A gas pipeline has been laid, the drinking water network repaired, and plans for communication lines have been approved. Additionally, a flag square has been constructed, and internal roads have been asphalted.
Shushakand comprises 263 private houses, of which 91 remain uninhabitable and 172 are partially usable. Fifteen homes have been fully restored, with an additional 85 scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, and 72 more planned for 2026. To date, 15 families, totalling 59 individuals, have returned to the village.
During his visit, President Aliyev met with Zaur Rzayev and his family, who have recently relocated to Shushakand, discussing their resettlement.
