Azerbaijani MP: Armenian government not ready for peace
Chairman of the Committee on Labor and Social Policy of Azerbaijan's Parliament, Musa Guliyev, has said that the Armenian public and the government are not ready for peace.
Guliyev voiced the statement at the Parliament's public hearings on “The Role of NGOs in the process of return to West Azerbaijan”, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to him, despite such an approach of Armenia, peace should be achieved sooner or later.
“We should target the Armenian public and explain to them that we have no territorial claims against Armenia. We just want to return to West Azerbaijan, to our ancestral lands, visit the graves of our relatives and settle there if necessary,” the committee head emphasized.
Despite some advancements in the peace process, challenges regarding the signing of a deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia remain.
In December 2024, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that 15 out of the 17 points of the peace agreement have been agreed upon.
Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia's foreign minister, declared that Armenia is interested in continuing peace talks and signing the agreement. However, some issues are still unresolved.
Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Armenia's internal political situation, including the adoption of a new constitution, affects the peace process. This defines the steps Armenia will take toward signing the peace agreement.
