Azerbaijani president meets German FM in Berlin, discusses COP29 & peace agenda
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan held a meeting with Annalena Baerbock, Foreign Minister of Germany, in Berlin.
During the meeting, Baerbock highlighted the significance of discussions held at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue and praised President Aliyev's speech at the event, Azertac reports.
She commended the close cooperation between Germany and Azerbaijan regarding COP29, reaffirming Germany's support for Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29.
President Aliyev expressed gratitude for Germany's collaboration on COP29 and participation in the Petersberg Climate Dialogue. He emphasized that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan aligns with the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Baerbock reiterated Germany’s commitment to supporting peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan. President Aliyev emphasized the importance of recent meetings facilitated by Germany, including discussions during the Munich Security Conference and peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan's foreign ministers.
President Aliyev described progress in border delimitation and demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan as positive steps toward regional stability and reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to advancing the peace agenda. He announced that the next meeting between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, initiated by Kazakhstan, will take place in Kazakhstan.
