Azerbaijani, Turkish leaders meet in Tianjin, discuss energy, transport ties PHOTO / UPDATED
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Tianjin, China, on September 1, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the continued strengthening of bilateral ties, built on brotherhood and a strategic alliance, across all areas, including energy and transport.
Discussions focused on cooperation between SOCAR and Türkiye’s BOTAŞ company, underlining the importance of delivering Azerbaijani gas to Syria through Türkiye with Qatar’s financial support. They also reviewed prospects for joint Azerbaijani-Turkish energy projects in third countries.
The significance of the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Kars-Iğdır-Dilucu railway line was highlighted, alongside discussions on ongoing railway projects in Azerbaijan, including in the Nakhchivan region.
The reconciliation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia was also addressed, with Türkiye’s stabilising role in regional affairs highly appreciated.
Both sides stressed the importance of the upcoming Summit of the Organization of Turkic States to be hosted in Azerbaijan and exchanged views on the future of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye strategic alliance, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
