Azerbaijan hosts official luncheon in honour of Latvian president
On April 22, an official luncheon was hosted in honour of President of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs on behalf of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports via state media.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid an official visit to Azerbaijan on April 22 at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev. The visit formed part of ongoing high-level political dialogue between the two countries, which established diplomatic relations in 1994 and cooperate through the Azerbaijan–Latvia Intergovernmental Commission.
During the visit, President Ilham Aliyev and President Edgars Rinkēvičs held a one-on-one meeting followed by expanded talks with their respective delegations. Discussions focused on the development of bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity, digitalisation, agriculture, consular affairs, and regional security.
The sides reaffirmed their interest in expanding practical cooperation and noted the importance of strengthening economic and institutional ties. President Aliyev highlighted the significance of work carried out within the Intergovernmental Commission and related business forums, while President Rinkēvičs described Azerbaijan as a strategic partner and underlined Latvia’s interest in developing political and economic relations.
A Joint Statement was adopted following the talks. In addition, several intergovernmental agreements and memoranda were exchanged covering cooperation in internal affairs, agriculture, consular services, plant health and protection, and border security cooperation for 2026–2027.
