Reuters: Closure of Hormuz could strengthen Iran’s energy dominance

Concerns are growing in the Middle East over the potential strengthening of Iran’s dominance in regional energy supply, Reuters reports, citing sources.

According to representatives of regional countries, Iran’s position in the energy sector could be reinforced if peace negotiations between Tehran and Washington fail. Full control over the Strait of Hormuz would contribute to rising tensions across the Middle East, they warn.

In such a scenario, Iran would focus on ensuring the stability of its energy exports to external markets. Countries most vulnerable in terms of energy security risk being left at a disadvantage.

“Ultimately, the Strait of Hormuz will become a red line,” one of the agency’s sources said.
