Belarus abandons World Trade Organization membership plan
The Belarusian government has adjusted some points of the country's development program from 2021 to 2025.
The updated document No. 105 of February 15, 2024, now does not contain the position that Belarus will join the World Trade Organization (WTO), Caliber.Az reports citing the Belarusian media.
It was supposed to change legal norms to join the global society while respecting national interests.
In 2022, the application was rejected, as the organization considered that the state did not meet the requirements for its potential member. Belarus' accession to the WTO was outlined as a goal back in 1993.
Now the plans include the development of economic relations of Belarus as a reliable partner within the CIS, EAEU, with Egypt, Indonesia, UAE, and Türkiye, for free trade.
