Belarus leader calls for mobilisation, warns of uncertain global future
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has called for national mobilisation, urging citizens to prepare for a period of uncertainty and economic challenge.
“We must mobilize now in order to get through this difficult time,” Lukashenko said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Belarusian media.
Describing the current geopolitical situation as unclear, he added: “Moreover, it is an unclear time. As president, I do not know what to prepare you for. We are working in order to live. One slogan — we work in order to live. Not just to survive, but to live. And what next? And next, no one knows what the powerful players of the world will come up with,” the Belarusian leader said.
In the same address, Lukashenko also focused on domestic economic policy, warning against what he described as excessive reliance on state support.
“We have already spoiled our people,” he said.
“First come the creation of conditions for citizens, and only then the economy. Guys, it will not work that way. We have already spoiled our people. If there is an economy, then citizens will live normally. The economy and production come first. If there is production, then people will work, receive wages, and live better. But dependency is very widespread among us,” Lukashenko said.
