Belarus leader calls for “peaceful” use of artificial intelligence
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called for artificial intelligence to be made “peaceful,” arguing that, as in the case of nuclear energy, the task of states is to ensure that AI is used responsibly and is not turned into a weapon of mass destruction.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Kazakh media, he made the remarks while stating that the key concept in the relevant Union declaration is the “responsible use” of AI technologies.
Lukashenko also noted that over the past five years, more than 480 events have been held within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), 18 international treaties have been signed, and around 500 regulatory acts have been adopted.
“However, let us be honest: regulation of the common financial market, trade barriers, electronic digital signatures, and other issues have been postponed. We talk about artificial intelligence, but practical matters, such as digital signatures, have been set aside. (...) I am not reproaching, but I strongly urge that since we agreed 12 years ago to move towards deep economic integration, let us implement all the Union’s goals and tasks in a timely and complete manner,” he said.
