BP confirms Jabrayil solar plant comply with its low-carbon energy strategy

02 November 2022 15:08

BP Vice President for Finance in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye Colin Allan has said that a solar power plant, which will be built by the British energy giant in Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil District liberated from Armenian occupation will provide the company's enterprises with electricity in Absheron.

Allan made the remarks during the "Green Transformation in Azerbaijan: Sustainable Development Goals" conference in Baku on November 2, Report informs.

He noted that this will greatly contribute to the green transition in Azerbaijan and allow to reduce the level of emissions at the company's installations by 11 per cent.

The vice president said that the transition to resilient hydrocarbons, which implies a transition to low-carbon energy and a corresponding reduction in oil and gas production, is one of BP's strategic goals.

“We have two big offshore oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan. The most important question is how exactly to make them ‘green’,” Allan said, adding another important issue is attracting investments in a green future and alternative energy.

He added that oil and gas priorities are changing, and Azerbaijan has every opportunity to follow them.
