UK eyes transfer of NIGHTFALL missiles to Ukraine upon completion
The United Kingdom is exploring the possibility of supplying NIGHTFALL tactical ballistic missiles to Ukraine once their development is complete.
Defence Secretary John Healey announced this during a press briefing, according to a report by the Ukrainian defence outlet Militarnyi.
“For more than three and a half years, we in the UK have been among the first to support Ukraine and provide it with the necessary assistance. We will always try to respond to what Ukraine thinks it needs most. But when we do so, we do not disclose the details of the technologies we provide,” Healey said.
The development of the NIGHTFALL missile was first announced in late August. It is expected to have a range of over 600 kilometres and carry roughly 300 kilograms of explosives, bringing the total warhead weight to an estimated 400–500 kilograms.
The anticipated cost per missile is no more than £500,000 (approx. $675,000), excluding the warhead, launcher, and development expenses.
If a contract is approved, the production facility would be capable of manufacturing at least 10 missiles per month, with potential for further scale-up.
The UK Ministry of defence aims to develop technical solutions and prepare at least five fully operational prototypes for testing within 9 to 12 months.
At the current stage, the MoD is still looking for partner in the industry to acquire the tactical ballistic missile, having announced the specifics of the project August 27, 2025. Other existing TBM systems include the US-made Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
