Call of Duty game developer dies in Ferrari crash in California VIDEO
The influential video game developer, co-creator of blockbusters Call of Duty and Battlefield 6, Vince Zampella, has died in a car accident on a highway in Los Angeles, California, the Telegram channel Mash reported.
The crash occurred on Angeles Crest Highway when Zampella’s Ferrari 296 GTS veered off the road and collided with a concrete barrier before catching fire. Zampella was trapped inside the vehicle and died in the blaze. The passenger was ejected through the windshield and later died in hospital.
Zampella co-founded Infinity Ward, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Call of Duty into the franchise known worldwide today. He later founded Respawn Entertainment, which produced Titanfall and Apex Legends. In 2025, under Zampella’s leadership, Respawn released Battlefield 6.
The BBC reported that Vince Zampella was aged 55. Officials said the person in the vehicle's passenger seat was ejected while the driver remained trapped. It is unclear if Zampella was driving the car and who the other person inside was.
Both people inside the vehicle died.
