China slams US over nuclear threat claims
China's Foreign Ministry has expressed serious concern regarding the United States' characterization of its nuclear strategy, accusing Washington of using the supposed threat to justify expanding its own weapons and strategic capabilities.
In response to President Joe Biden's recent endorsement of a strategic plan to bolster US nuclear forces, the Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized the US for promoting a distorted view of China’s nuclear intentions, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The Ministry stated, “The US is promoting and peddling a version of China’s nuclear threat, finding excuses to gain strategic advantage.” They further contended that the United States itself represents a significant source of strategic risks in the current international landscape.
Additionally, the Ministry called on Washington to adhere to nuclear disarmament principles and to fulfil its own commitments regarding arms control.
President Biden’s approval of a classified strategic document in March has heightened tensions. This document, which outlines preparations for potential "coordinated nuclear confrontations involving Russia, China, and North Korea," is classified and does not have electronic versions available. Only a limited number of hard copies have been distributed to select national security officials and Pentagon leaders, according to Reuters. The document is updated approximately every four years, reflecting ongoing concerns about nuclear threats and strategic stability.
