CNN: Trump returns US to confrontation with Russia

US President Donald Trump’s statements about arming Kyiv and his criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin can be interpreted as a sign of “desperation” at the current stage of the conflict, according to the CNN television channel.

The channel’s report notes that the change in the American leader’s rhetoric indicates that he is “back where Biden always was.”

CNN points out that Trump’s new statements signal a “reversion to a basic bedrock of US foreign policy,” which the country has adhered to “for decades” — confrontation with Russia.

The channel positively assessed Trump’s decision to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine, while noting that this is unlikely to significantly help Ukrainian forces on the front lines.
