Media: Trump may approve Tomahawk missile transfer to Ukraine
Kiev has formally requested long-range Tomahawk missiles from Washington amid its counteroffensive, while US President Donald Trump said he had “made a decision” but first needed details on the intended targets.
Sources close to the White House indicated that Trump plans to provide the missiles in limited numbers, using the shipment as leverage to encourage genuine negotiations between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Caliber.Az reports per El Mundo.
If diplomatic efforts fail due to Moscow’s refusal to engage, larger shipments could follow.
The Kremlin responded, saying it expected “clearer statements” regarding the potential missile deliveries.
Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted, “We understand that we may need to wait for clearer statements, if any,” and highlighted that Putin has warned supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine could escalate tensions between Moscow and Washington.
President Zelenskyy justified Ukraine’s recent attacks on Russian military and energy targets, arguing they were a necessary response to Moscow’s war strategy. “Russia sells its energy and then uses that money exclusively for war.
That is why Ukraine is taking absolutely justified measures,” he said. Zelenskyy added, “They are killing us. We cannot allow them to feel comfortable. And when they no longer feel comfortable, they will start questioning their leaders.”
