29 August 2026 11:56
Hundreds of people have been evacuated after a fire broke out at a refugee accommodation centre in Berlin’s Spandau district on August 29.
The fire broke out early in the morning in a six-storey building. Furnishings caught fire in a corridor on the fifth floor, while smoke spread to the sixth and seventh floors, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Four people suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.
A total of 74 firefighters attended the scene and brought the fire under control. The fifth floor was temporarily deemed uninhabitable, while 50 to 60 residents were transferred to an emergency accommodation centre.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
