Georgia to maintain size of defence forces in 2026
07 October 2025 21:17
The size of Georgia’s Defence Forces will remain unchanged in 2026, according to a draft government decree.
The proposed measure, which accompanies the 2026 draft state budget, sets the maximum number of active-duty personnel at 37,000, the same limit in place for the current year. The decree will be submitted to the Georgian parliament for approval, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
The personnel cap applies only to active members of the Defence Forces and does not include reservists, temporary staff, or other personnel under the Ministry of Defence.
Georgia's military service is structured into four categories: compulsory, contract-based, regular service, and reserve forces.
