Defence Minister: Germany to supply Ukraine with five more Patriot systems
Germany will provide Ukraine with additional air defence systems and the necessary ammunition, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced during a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in the Ramstein format.
“Germany will deliver further air defence systems and the required munitions,” Caliber.Az quotes Pistorius as saying per Ukrainian media.
He revealed that during his visit to Washington last week, he reached an agreement with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth for Germany to support the provision of five urgently needed Patriot systems for Ukraine.
“In addition, during my trip to Washington last week, I agreed with Pete Hegseth that Germany would join efforts to supply five urgently needed Patriot systems as quickly as possible,” Pistorius said.
He added that both countries would coordinate closely in the coming days to ensure swift delivery.
“We will work in close coordination, in a spirit of mutual trust between partners, to determine how best to achieve this over the coming days,” he concluded.
Germany has significantly stepped up its military backing for Ukraine as Russian long‑range missile and drone strikes persist.
To date, Ukraine has received three German‑provided Patriot batteries—part of a broader European and US effort—and discussions are underway to supply five more systems.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently pledged to finance two additional US‑made Patriots through Germany, and Defence Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed plans to purchase two more and coordinate delivery alongside US Secretary Pete Hegseth.
NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, said prep work is underway to move Patriot systems to Kyiv “as quickly as possible”.
These moves come during a Ramstein‑format meeting amid urgent calls to bolster Ukraine’s air defences, highlighting growing transatlantic cooperation and Germany’s evolving role in Europe’s security framework.
