Donetsk region's head vows to liberate Krasny Liman from Ukrainian military
The acting head of the Russian-backed self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in eastern Ukraine has said that the town of Krasny Liman in the DPR will be liberated from the Ukrainian military.
"We will liberate Krasny Liman and we will undoubtedly liberate the entire territory of the republic," he said in a live broadcast on the Soloviev Live TV Channel on October 5, according to TASS.
Referring to the servicemen fighting in the Krasny Liman area, Pushilin said that "they were ready to fight to the end there," had they not received a command to retreat.
Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov reported on October 1 that the troops had withdrawn from the settlement of Krasny Liman in the DPR due to a threat of encirclement and moved to more advantageous frontiers.
He also said that "the Russian troops had killed over 200 Ukrainian militants in that area but the enemy introduced reserves and went ahead with its offensive, having a considerable preponderance in manpower and military equipment".
