EU prepares emergency measures as energy crisis deepens
The European Commission is considering the introduction of emergency measures in response to an energy crisis triggered by the war in Iran and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.
The European Union’s spending on energy imports has risen by more than €22 billion, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Among the measures under discussion are the temporary closure of some public buildings to conserve resources, the introduction of energy vouchers for vulnerable groups, cuts to electricity taxes, and reduced public transport fares.
Additionally, companies across Europe may be encouraged to allow employees to work remotely one day per week.
The final package of measures is expected to be presented in late April by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
