EU proposes to impose sanctions on even more Russians

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has said he would propose sanctions against even more individuals and companies from Russia.

TASS reports referring to the website of the European Commission (EC).

“Today’s package reflects our coordinated approach with international partners including the G7. In addition to these measures, I will also present proposals to Council for the listing of more individuals and entities, with their assets frozen and ability to travel curtailed,” Borrel stated.

The European Commission earlier on July 15 proposed a seventh package of sanctions against Moscow, including an embargo on Russian gold purchases, while stressing that EU sanctions should not impede Russian food trade with third countries. The new package also includes increased controls on the export of military and dual-use products and technologies and on the enforcement of previously adopted financial restrictions. The EC has also proposed extending all sanctions against Russia until January 2023. By the end of July, this decision must be approved by the EU Council.
