EU top diplomat commends Azerbaijan for evacuation efforts amid Middle East crisis
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has publicly expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its pivotal role in facilitating the evacuation of European Union citizens amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
Speaking to Azerbaijani journalists on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, Kallas acknowledged the crucial assistance provided by Azerbaijan in ensuring the safe passage of EU diplomats and nationals from the volatile region, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“I have been in contact with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister since the escalation in the region. I also thanked him for organising the evacuation of our diplomats and citizens through Azerbaijan,” Kallas stated, highlighting the importance of Azerbaijan’s cooperation during this tense period.
Beyond the immediate humanitarian response, Kallas revealed that she engaged in discussions with her Azerbaijani counterpart regarding the broader regional implications of the conflict. She particularly emphasized concerns about potential migration pressures emanating from Iran toward Azerbaijan, reflecting apprehensions over the conflict’s spillover effects. “I mean including the migration pressure that comes from Iran in the direction of Azerbaijan,” the EU’s top diplomat explained.
