EU to provide €75 million grant to restore Chernobyl containment structure
The European Commission will provide a €75 million grant to restore the New Safe Confinement over the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which, according to the Ukrainian side, was damaged in a Russian attack, Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced
“The European Commission will provide a €75 million grant for the restoration of the New Safe Confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, damaged by a russian attack. I thank European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for this support. This contribution is an important step toward restoring the protective structure over the destroyed reactor unit and strengthening nuclear safety in Ukraine and across Europe,” Shmyhal wrote on X.

He added that restoring damaged energy infrastructure, increasing the resilience of Ukraine’s power system, and ensuring reliable energy supply remain key priorities, thanking the European Commission and partners for their continued support.
