Flood evacuations surge in Malaysia, with over 4,100 affected
The number of flood evacuees in Sabah, Malaysia, has surged to 4,122, up from 1,357 as of the morning of March 10, according to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat.
The increase reflects the ongoing impact of floods across various districts, Caliber.Az reports via Malaysian media.
In Tenom, 743 evacuees from 276 families are being housed in eight relief centres. Beaufort has 1,339 evacuees from 432 families at four centres, while Membakut reports 872 evacuees from 293 families at two centres. The Sook district is sheltering 1,031 people from 241 families at two relief centres, and in Keningau, 137 people from 51 families are seeking refuge in two centres.
A total of 37 villages across Sabah have been affected by the floods, with 10 villages each in Beaufort, Membakut, and Tenom, five in Sook, and two in Keningau. The evacuation situation remains stable across all relief centres.
In Sarawak, the flood situation has also worsened, with the number of evacuees rising slightly to 352, up from 347 the previous evening. The Limbang district reports 178 evacuees at a relief centre in Dewan Masyarakat Medamit, while the Lawas district continues to shelter 174 evacuees across three centres: Dewan Masyarakat Trusan (100), SJKC Chung Hwa (35), and SK Lintang (39).
