Kyrgyz security service detains regional official for embezzling millions PHOTO
An official in Kyrgyzstan’s Chuy Region has been detained on suspicion of causing 12 million soms (over $136,900) in damage to the state, the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) announced.
According to the committee, serious violations of urban planning regulations and misuse of budget funds were uncovered during the 2022–2024 capital repair of the Petropavlovsk canal in the Jayyl District, Caliber.Az reports per Kyrgyz media.

A review confirmed state losses totalling 12 million soms (over $136,900).
As part of the investigation, 59-year-old R.M.O., who headed the Chuy Region Basin Water Resources Department and previously served as acting chief of the Water Resources Service, was taken into custody at the SCNS temporary detention facility.
Investigators are working to identify other individuals involved in potential corruption schemes.
