Ukraine warns of growing Chinese influence over Russia, intensified military cooperation
On December 10, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Chinese influence over Russia is increasing, particularly through investments, technology transfers, and political support, citing a briefing by the head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleg Ivashchenko.
According to a statement by Zelenskyy on Telegram, parts of Russian territory, especially resource-rich regions, are becoming increasingly dependent on China, raising concerns about Moscow’s de facto loss of sovereignty over these areas.
Zelenskyy also highlighted steps by Beijing to deepen military-industrial cooperation with Russia.
“Intelligence from our partners confirms similar trends,” he said, adding that Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service has been instructed to closely monitor Russia-China cooperation across all areas affecting Ukraine’s national security, as well as European and U.S. interests.
Ivashchenko further reported ongoing Russian political campaigns aimed at destabilising Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasised that Kyiv will act to block any entities assisting Russia in such efforts.
“Global security must not be compromised because Russia’s appetite for aggression remains undiminished,” Zelenskyy said.
