Pakistan takes over SCO chairmanship from Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan has completed its chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and handed it over to Pakistan.

The announcement was made following a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Bishkek, according to 24.kg.

Kyrgyzstan held the SCO chairmanship in 2025–2026 under the motto “25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity”.

The main event of its chairmanship was the anniversary summit, which resulted in the signing of the Bishkek Declaration marking the SCO’s 25th anniversary and 27 other documents.

The decisions adopted covered regional security, combating drugs, artificial intelligence, information security, energy, transport, climate and biodiversity conservation.

Pakistan will hold the SCO chairmanship in 2026–2027. Lahore has also been designated the SCO’s tourism and cultural capital for the period.
