Polish fighter jets intercept Russian surveillance aircraft over Baltic Sea

Polish Air Force fighter jets were scrambled to escort a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced.

“30 kilometres north of Łeba, our fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft. There was no violation of our airspace over the Baltic Sea,” the minister wrote on X.

Poland has repeatedly scrambled fighter jets in response to Russian military aviation activity. On August 20, Polish aircraft were deployed due to “the activity of Russian long-range aviation carrying out strikes against Ukraine.”
