Flotilla for Gaza reports second drone attack on boat at Tunisian port VIDEO

10 September 2025 10:02

One of the boats of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international initiative delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, was attacked by a drone at a Tunisian port on Wednesday, September 10, marking the second such strike in two days.

The flotilla said all passengers and crew were unharmed, Caliber.Az reports via Western media.

The incident occurred at the Sidi Bou Said port, where hundreds gathered afterward waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against Israel and the United States. The British-flagged vessel Alma sustained fire damage to its top deck, and an investigation is underway.

The flotilla, supported by delegations from 44 countries—including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and Portuguese politician Mariana Mortagua—aims to break Israel’s naval blockade to deliver aid to Gaza. One of the flotilla’s organisers accused Israel of carrying out the attack. “Israel continues to breach international law and terrorise us. We will sail to break the blockade on Gaza no matter what they do,” said Saif Abukeshek, a member of the Flotilla steering committee.

Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza since Hamas seized control in 2007, citing security concerns. The blockade has persisted during the ongoing war, which began in October 2023 after Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking roughly 250 hostages. Israel’s military response has reportedly killed over 64,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry, with parts of the enclave facing famine.

The flotilla has repeatedly faced Israeli attacks. In June, Israeli naval forces boarded a British-flagged yacht carrying Thunberg, dismissing the mission as a propaganda stunt. The Flotilla said Wednesday’s attack “comes during intensified Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza, and is an orchestrated attempt to distract and derail our mission,” but confirmed it will continue its operations.
