FM says Iran to keep improving relations with Armenia

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said that we will keep and improve our relations with Armenia day by day.

He made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan on December 27, where he arrived to hold bilateral talks with Armenian officials, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency.

Reaffirming Iran's support for Armenia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, Amir-Abdollahian pointed to Iran's historical and important relations with the neighbouring country and said, "We will keep and improve our relations with Armenia day by day. Today, we agreed on deepening the various aspects of the relations between the two countries."

"We strongly support lasting peace in the South Caucasus region," he stressed, adding that "Iran is ready to pursue the approach of strengthening the North-South transit line at a faster pace,"

"Achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus without the intervention of foreign powers and through regional guarantors can bring high benefits to everyone," the Iranian minister added later in his remarks at the presser.

Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is also scheduled to hold talks about ways to meet the current challenges in the South Caucasus region within the framework of the 3+3 Platform, which includes Iran, Russia, Turkey, and three South Caucasus nations.

In separate telephone conversations with his Russian and Azeri counterparts on the evening of December 26, Amir-Abdollahian highlighted Iran’s push for the establishment of peace between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan by employing regional capacities.

In the phone call with the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Jeyhun Bayramov, Amir-Abdollahian said Iran will proceed with its constructive efforts to ensure sustainable peace between its two northwestern neighbours.

For his part, the Azeri foreign minister praised Iran’s constructive stances, expressing hope that a final peace agreement between his country and Armenia would be signed in the near future.
