France thwarts terrorist plot targeting Olympics
French law enforcement agencies have successfully thwarted a terrorist plot targeting the Olympic Games.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin revealed the recent arrests of several suspects, Caliber.Az reports citing French media.
"The terrorist threat remains exceptionally serious. Despite our discretion during the election campaign, we have apprehended individuals involved in planning and potentially executing terrorist attacks," Darmanin disclosed.
While the exact number of detainees was not specified, Darmanin confirmed multiple arrests across different locations.
The cases have been transferred to French judicial authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
The upcoming Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. These games, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, will feature a wide range of sporting events and activities.
Paris last hosted the Summer Olympics in 1924, making this event a significant return to the city after a century.
