French magazine Charlie Hebdo mocks Türkiye earthquake PHOTO
The cartoon from the French magazine Charlie Hebdo about the earthquake that killed thousands of people in Türkiye and Syria drew harsh criticism from social media users across the world.
Charlie Hebdo targeted the earthquake in Türkiye with a cartoon saying: "An earthquake in Türkiye. There is no need to even send a tank."
Social media users from both Türkiye and the world reacted to the publication of the magazine, TRT Haber writes.
One user said: "It is frankly inhumane to joke about this drama when there are people underground right now. What you are doing in the name of freedom of expression is outrageous!"
Charlie Hebdo had previously demonstrated a similar stance on the earthquake in Italy, which claimed the lives of 294 people in 2016.
Back then, the magazine's authors depicted the disaster in a cartoon titled "Italy earthquake", where victims of the quake were likened to Italian pasta and the collapsed buildings and those under the rubble were compared to the famous Italian dish, lasagna made of layered dough.
