Media: Meghan Markle cited as key factor in rift between princes William, Harry
The ongoing feud between Prince William and Prince Harry is reportedly fueled significantly by tensions surrounding Meghan Markle, Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and royal commentator, stated.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Seward highlighted how the Duchess of Sussex remains deeply unpopular among monarchists in the UK, straining the brothers’ relationship.
“The flea in the ointment really is very much Meghan,” Seward stated. “She’s disliked intensely by a large number of the monarchists of this country. They see her as being very… damaging to the royal family.” Seward also noted that many in the US share these views, criticizing Meghan for reportedly distancing herself from both her husband’s family and her own, including the fact that her children have never met her father, Thomas Markle.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich reinforced this perspective, asserting that distrust of Meghan remains a significant obstacle to reconciliation. “Persistent lack of trust is the main reason why senior royals remain reluctant to engage in reconciliation efforts,” she said. “Their concerns are well-founded, that any private family discussions could become public or be used for commercial projects… [Meghan]… has no sense of duty toward the British public nor the institution.”
The rift between William and Harry continues to widen, with People magazine recently reporting no communication between the brothers. Author Robert Lacey described the division as “very profound and very long-lasting,” suggesting that reconciliation hinges on Harry apologizing first. Insider sources revealed that Harry’s outreach to William has gone unanswered.
Seward observed that William has “taken a firm stance” amid the couple’s tell-all interviews, while Harry claims William was “unpleasant” toward Meghan. “Harry thinks that William insulted Meghan,” she said. “When you have that kind of animosity, it’s really hard to [get around it]. I just don’t see any kind of reparation.”
Despite the strained ties, there remains hope. Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner acknowledged the widespread mistrust but noted King Charles’ efforts to facilitate dialogue. Seward, however, doubts Meghan’s return to the UK, saying, “Why would you come back to a country where people really didn’t like you or want you?”
The brothers last reunited in 2021 at a memorial but reportedly did not speak. Harry is expected in the UK this September for a charity event, though whether this will lead to family reconciliation remains uncertain. A source lamented, “This is the sadness of it – [the brothers] aren’t supporting each other like they should be. That’s what any mother would want – that they are there for each other.”
