French president votes in parliamentary elections
French President Emmanuel Macron has voted in the elections for the country's National Assembly (lower house of parliament).
Together with his wife Brigitte Macron, he arrived at the polling station in the seaside town of Le Touquet (north of the country), TASS informs.
The footage of the arrival was broadcast by the BFM TV channel.
A little earlier, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who also takes part in these elections in the department of Calvados (Normandy region), voted.
For her, this is the first parliamentary election as a candidate, in which she represents the presidential majority. She is running in a constituency where most voters voted for Macron during the presidential election.
Together with Borne, another 14 ministers are competing for mandates - more than half of the members of the current cabinet.
The president has already warned that members of the government who lose in their constituencies will not be able to remain in the cabinet.
The leaders of the opposition forces also voted on the morning of June 12: the candidate from the National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, and the head of the left-wing La France Insoumise (Unbowed France), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, showed up at their polling stations.
