Germany mulls temporary transfer of IRIS-T systems to Ukraine with Sweden, Egypt
Germany is discussing with partner countries the temporary transfer of IRIS-T air defence systems to Ukraine, Defence Committee Deputy Chairman Omid Nuripour said.
"Of course, Ukraine needs more missile defence systems. IRIS-T systems help protect cities, so it is important. The German government is also discussing this with partner countries that have received IRIS-T from Germany, whether they can at least temporarily hand them over to Ukraine," he said on air of ZDF.
The politician did not name the countries with which Germany is negotiating. However, it is known that Germany sold four RIS-T SLM complexes to Egypt in 2018, and Egypt ordered 16 additional complexes in 2021.
Also in 2019, Sweden received its first IRIS-T SLS short-range system from Germany.
