Hungary offers Budapest as venue for Russia–US–Ukraine summit
Hungary has offered to host a summit between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, pledging to ensure the safety of all participants, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said.
According to Szijjártó, Budapest has repeatedly offered itself as a neutral location for talks to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, and that offer remains open, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“Let us know even an hour before arrival, and we will be ready to guarantee fair, safe, and equal conditions for all sides here in Hungary,” he said.
The announcement comes after a series of recent diplomatic meetings in Washington. On 18 August, US President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, followed by discussions with European leaders.
These meetings came shortly after Trump’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
During the Washington meetings, Trump explored options with Kyiv and European partners for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, including the potential organisation of a trilateral US–Russia–Ukraine summit.
Plans are reportedly underway for a direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy, mediated by Trump.
Earlier, the Ukrainian parliament outlined possible dates for the proposed trilateral summit.
