Syria arrests 2 over National Museum weapons theft PHOTO
Syrian authorities say they have arrested two people in connection with the theft of historical weapons from the National Museum in Damascus.
The Interior Ministry said on January 13 that the suspects were detained following a targeted security operation, during which 24 of the stolen items were recovered, Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.
In a statement published on the ministry’s Telegram channel, officials said the two individuals had confessed to stealing the weapons and selling them to arms dealers. Efforts are continuing to locate and recover the remaining items.
The suspects have been referred to judicial authorities for further legal action, the ministry added.
The incident follows an earlier theft at the National Museum on 10 October, when several ancient statues and rare artefacts were stolen.
