Ukraine’s parliament approves resignations of defence, security chiefs
Ukraine’s Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) has approved the resignation of Denys Shmyhal from his post as Minister of Defence, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced.
Shmyhal submitted his resignation on January 9, having led the ministry since July 2025, Caliber.Az reports.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that Shmyhal take over the Ministry of Energy and assume the role of First Deputy Prime Minister.
In a parallel move, the parliament also confirmed the dismissal of Vasyl Malyuk as head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
While the parliamentary committee on national security initially did not support the president’s proposal, a repeated review led the committee to back Malyuk’s resignation, with 235 deputies voting in favour.
Ukraine’s parliament additionally approved the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov from his position as Minister of Digital Transformation, with 270 deputies voting in favour.
