Dutch PM: We must intensify pressure on Russia
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof has called for intensified international pressure on Russia following recent attacks that left thousands of households in Ukraine’s Kyiv region without electricity amid severe winter conditions.
Speaking on X after a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on January 13, Schoof said, “Over the past few days, Russia has again carried out large-scale attacks on energy infrastructure and civilian targets in Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of households in the Kyiv region are currently without power in extremely cold weather conditions. We must intensify the pressure on Russia.”
The Dutch leader also reflected on last week’s Coalition of the Willing meeting, in which a group of countries pledged support for Ukraine’s security.
“Together with a large group of countries, we are prepared to make a substantial contribution to security guarantees in case of a peace agreement,” Schoof added.
He noted that further discussions are planned during the upcoming World Economic Forum in Davos, where a broad representation of European nations, the United States, and Ukraine will meet.
“Next week, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, a broad representation of European countries, America and Ukraine will discuss this further,” he said.
