Greece allocates €20 million to Ukraine via NATO fund
Greece will contribute €20 million to the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) fund, a mechanism developed by NATO and the United States to coordinate and finance Ukraine’s most urgent battlefield needs.
The amount reflects the country’s current financial capacity, and the decision has been officially communicated to NATO and US authorities, Caliber.Az reports via Greek media.
While the contribution is largely symbolic at this stage, it signals Greece’s willingness to follow the political course supported by Washington.
NATO Allies, including numerous European nations, have launched the PURL initiative to streamline pooled funding for urgently needed US-made weapons and supplies for Ukraine, facilitating faster delivery of air defence systems, ammunition, and other essential equipment.
Since its launch in mid-2025, NATO members and partners have collectively pledged over $4 billion through PURL to finance major packages of military support for Ukraine, reflecting broad Allied commitment to sustaining Ukrainian defence amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.
The PURL mechanism was created to address gaps in European stockpiles and ensure a predictable flow of US weapons to Ukraine by allowing allies to fund bulk purchases and transfers, with contributions from countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Nordic and Baltic states, and others.
