Gulf states privately support change of Iran regime, says US ambassador
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated that Gulf states would welcome the fall of Iran’s current regime, privately expressing support for efforts to change the ruling system.
In an interview with News Nation, Huckabee stressed that Iran poses a threat not only to the United States and Israel but to all countries in the region, Caliber.Az reports.
“I think everybody in the region can’t stand Iran. It’s a threat to not just the US and Israel. Iran is a threat to anybody who would like to see normalisation in peace,” Huckabee said.
He added that while regional governments may not publicly voice this stance for security reasons, they privately support a change of power in Tehran.
“They may not say it publicly because they don’t want to become a target, but privately, every single Gulf state would love to see the Iranian people succeed in getting rid of this regime and restoring some sanity to what once was a great Persian culture,” Huckabee stressed.
The ambassador emphasised that the discussion is not about US troops entering Iran, but about whether to continue supporting and encouraging the Iranian people.
Huckabee also noted that the possibility of targeted strikes cannot be ruled out, but any decision on such action rests solely with the US president. “That’s a decision that only the president can make,” he concluded.
