Hadrian X Robot to implement revolutionary building project

18 July 2024 07:03

FBR's Hadrian X robot has arrived in Florida as part of a partnership with CRH Ventures Americas, Inc. This robotic builder aims to showcase its capability by undertaking a site acceptance test in Fort Myers and subsequently constructing between five and ten single-story homes.

The Hadrian X, a robotic truck featuring a 105-ft (32-m) telescopic boom arm, has recently traveled from Australia to Florida.

The robotic construction vehicle is poised to begin constructing up to 10 houses, aiming to revolutionize community building, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.

Developed by FBR, formerly known as Fastbrick Robotics, the Hadrian X was initially unveiled in 2015 with a prototype capable of constructing a full-sized house in two days. Last year, FBR introduced an upgraded Hadrian X model capable of stacking 500 masonry blocks per hour in USA-format, highlighting its enhanced speed and efficiency.

The robotic construction arm begins its work after being loaded with pallets of blocks. Each block is fed down a chute on the arm, coated with a quick-dry construction adhesive instead of mortar, and precisely placed by a variable gripper at the arm's end. With its considerable length, the arm can erect buildings up to three stories tall. Moreover, being a robot, it operates continuously without needing breaks or sleep, ensuring it can work almost non-stop, even in adverse weather conditions.

Hadrian X's arrival in Florida marks a collaboration between FBR and CRH Ventures Americas, Inc., a subsidiary of CRH plc, one of the largest suppliers of concrete blocks in the US. The initial plan involves conducting a site acceptance test at a facility in Fort Myers, Florida, to showcase the robot's capabilities. If successful, Hadrian X will proceed to construct between five and ten single-story homes as part of a demonstration program. Following this phase, FBR and CRH Ventures aim to establish a more permanent agreement, designating FBR as the exclusive provider of "Wall as a Service" across the United States.

The agreement has the potential to result in the gradual acquisition of 300 Hadrian X units from FBR, paving the way for the development of complete communities constructed by robots.
