Former British PM advocates for Ukraine’s immediate NATO membership Amid ongoing conflict
Boris Johnson, the former UK Prime Minister, has called for Ukraine to be admitted to NATO without delay, despite the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Johnson argued that this move is crucial and can be accomplished without extending NATO's collective defence obligations to all of Ukraine’s territory, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Johnson proposed that NATO should invite Ukraine to join the alliance now, suggesting that security guarantees under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty could be applied to all Ukrainian territories currently under its control, as well as those it might reclaim by the end of the year. He emphasized the importance of reaffirming Ukraine's sovereignty over its 1991 borders.
“The time to admit Ukraine to NATO is now,” Johnson stated, highlighting that such a decision would reinforce Ukraine’s right to territorial integrity and provide necessary security assurances during a critical period in the ongoing war.
