Hungary accuses Poland of hypocrisy over trade relations with Russia
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said that Poland criticizes Hungary for cooperation with Russia, although Warsaw secretly continues to conduct trade relations with Russia.
The minister’s remarks were made public by Zoltan Kovacs, state secretary for international communications and relations in the Hungarian prime minister's office, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Our Polish brothers are quietly doing the same thing, so they should not criticize us for talking about it openly and honestly,” Sijjarto said.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kovacs also noted that the head of Hungarian diplomacy believes Warsaw secretly continues trade with Russia while publicly criticizing other EU countries for similar moves.
Szijjártó stressed that the trade turnover between Russia and Poland reached €6 billion at the end of 2023, and the Polish side conducted purchases of Russian fertilizers in significant volumes.
